I can’t get over this rad new video for Punks Jump Up’s new smokin’ boogie-funk jam “Mr. Overtime” featuring vocals from Dave 1 of Chromeo. Slick, sexy, and artfully animated. Directed by┬áMaxime Bruneel, it’s the perfect fit for the song’s 80s italo-disco influence- an 80’s throwback vibe involving sports cars driving fast on the highway at night. But the animation style has a much more current feel- a very successful juxtaposition. If this track is totally new to you, fix that by heading over to the Moda Records Soundcloud and checking out the single and all the many awesome remixes. It’s out officially on April 30th.

This Saturday Vitalic Noise, Potamus and I have cooked up another amazing party for you at La Paz. ROBO BOOGIE is going to be extremely 80s and extremely robo-tastic. It’ll cost you only $2 at the door if you come in some sort of robot attire, and $3 without. Seriously, just wear some silver lame or spandex, or an aluminum foil hat and we’ll let you in for $2.

On top of that, we’ll have our usual cheap drink deals- $2.50 PBR tallboys, $4 margaritas, and $2 jello shots. We’ll also have some robot/80s themed mixed drinks.

I’m also compiling a playlist of 80s visuals that’ll be shown on the wall.

RSVP on our facebook event here, “like” the LPLN facebook page here, and follow us on twitter @lapazlatenight. Also don’t forget that my new, 80s-tinged mix for spring 2011 is now up and available to download:

Seriously, this will be every bit as fun as our 90’s night was last month, so whether you’re with us all night or you make us your official afterparty, a good time will be had!

I decided to release my spring mix a little early, mainly to coincide with this weekend’s 80’s/robot themed La Paz Late NightROBO BOOGIE. Plus, we can all agree that spring could use a little encouragement to get the fuck HERE. This mix has a deliberate 80s tinge, for obvious reasons. Enjoy/download:

This XKCD comic was just too good not to post:

The aptly-named Monsters of Folk is a new project comprised of Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Jim James, and Mike Mogis. They’ve released the first single “Say Please” for free download, and Brooklyn Vegan has it. My opinion is: not bad… maybe a 6 out of 10?

Apparently Wes Anderson is directing a movie adaptation of the Roald Dahl story The Fantastic Mr. Fox. This sounds like an unbeatable combination to me, and I definitely look forward to seeing it. Trailer will be out at the end of the month. (Via Kottke)

Tonight is the 3rd in the 4-part decades cover nights sponsored by Nashville Cream at Mercy Lounge. Tonight’s decade is the 80’s, so expect some Phil Collins, Pat Benatar, Pixies, Erasure, Motley Crue, and lots of ridiculous outfits. Check Nashville Cream for the lineup. Next week my band will play 90’s night under the one-time name “Shit Sandwich.” It’s gonna be awesome. Just sayin’. Oh yeah, and the week after that I’m hosting another 8 off 8th. So basically Mercy Lounge should be your home for the next few monday nights.

My friend and bandmate Seth entered into the 48 hour film project again this year, and my apartment was the setting for the 5 minute movie he created for it. Check out Joe, Dean, and Charlene by Seth Graves:
